5 days, 4 nights

The Great Ocean Walk is one of Australia’s most iconic treks. Join us as we walk just over 50km, between Castle Cove and the Twelve Apostles near Princetown.

The spectacular walk, opened in 2006, weaves its way through national parks full of tall forests, coastal heathlands, wild rocky shores and windswept cliff-tops, presenting amazing views – nature truly unfolds at every step. If you have driven the Great Ocean Road you are in for even more of a treat, walking it gives you a unique perspective of the remote and dramatic landscape which cannot be appreciated from a vehicle window.

During the day we will enjoy fairly steady walks, averaging 17km per day over three days. These walks can be undertaken by anyone with a reasonable level of fitness. It is not technically difficult, but the walk is certainly worth training for if you are not used to long distance walking. However, you probably won’t notice how far you’ve walked as you’ll be distracted by the natural scenery around you. Only day-packs to be carried.

At night we’ll stay in shared apartments/cottages, with comfy beds and warm showers, no need to do it too tough! There is an option to be catered for or you may self-cater using the full

kitchen available to you.

Want to see Melbourne? Ask us about the option of staying for the weekend before or after the walk.

Additional information

Day 1
Meet at the domestic terminal at Melbourne airport at agreed time. We’ll make the most of the day by taking the scenic route along the Great Ocean Road to Castle Cove in a private vehicle, stopping for lunch along the way and a supermarket shop to collect supplies. We’ll arrive late afternoon at our accommodation. Rest of day at leisure.
Day 2
From the accommodation start your walk from Castle Cove to Milanesia Beach. From our first few steps be blown away by some of the most spectacular coast line views. Castle Cove is surrounded by towering cliffs, we’ll trek along the cliff tops though heathland and forest before emerging onto the wild and wonderful Johanna Beach then make our way to Milanesia where we end our walk. We’ll be met and transferred back to our apartment for a well earned rest. Hike:16km.
Day 3
After breakfast we’ll drive to Milanesia to start where we finished yesterday, heading straight to the isolated Milanesia Beach. It will be a walk not to be missed with views back towards Cape Otway Lighthouse as we meander along the rocky cliffs, bays and caves. At the Gables Lookout we’ll experience one of the highest sea cliffs in mainland Australian with views out to to sea, with any luck we should see the migrating Southern Right Whales. Be met at the carpark for our transfer back to our cottage.

Hike: 18km Milanesia Beach – Gables Lookout

Day 4
After a hearty breakfast it’s time to head out for our final push to the finish line at The 12 Apostles Lookout. Depending on how we’re feeling we may start at Gables Lookout or a little further along at Wreck Beach. If the tides are right we’ll see anchors of two of the many ships which gives the bay its name. The 12 Apostles (although now only 7) will come into view as we approach the end of our walk at

the visitor centre. Again be met and transferred back to our cottage. An optional celebratory dinner at a local pub tonight. Hike: 16-19km

Day 5
After a leisurely morning we will pack up and head back to Melbourne Airport to be there by early afternoon to check-in for your flight home. Not ready to leave yet? Take the option to stay for a weekend in Melbourne, just ask.
