This modern metropolis lies on the Arabian sea and its influence can be felt in the waves of people who have made this mesmerising city their home. This city encapsulates the contradiction that is present day India – it has the largest slum in Asia, bordered by some of the most expensive real estate in the world. It gives hope to millions through the Bollywood movies pumped out by one of the most prolific film industries in the world, yet also has traditional Koli fishing villages and areas of tropical forest home to wild leopards.

Depending on your arrival time, you may wish to venture out for a stroll around Colaba, where you will find a vast array of street stalls and restaurants serving cuisine from all over the world. It is a fascinating area to sit back and watch life go by and you might even enjoy a visit to the world famous Leopold Cafe and Bar, which has stood on the corner of Colaba Causeway since 1871.
Overnight: Hotel, Mumbai
We will then head to Chowpatty Beach – famous for having some of the best street food in Mumbai. On our way back to our hotel we will take a promenade down Marine Drive, a popular walking spot also known as the ‘Queen’s necklace’ because its twinkling night lights resemble a string of pearls. We will return to Colaba to soak up the nigh life and enjoy eating at one of its many fantastic restaurants.
When we return to the mainland we will visit Mani Bhavan, where Mahatma Gandhi stayed. We will then visit Mumba Devi Mandir – an old Hindu temple and the origin of the city’s name. We will then take a trip to the Haji Ali mosque and shrine. This shrine is 600 years old and can only be reached at low tide as it is located on an islet reached only by a causeway.
In the afternoon we will visit Juhu beach, an upmarket area know for its sprawling beach. Take a stroll along the beach and watch as people indulge in two of Mumbai’s favourite past times – playing cricket and eating street food! This area is home to many Bollywood stars and tonight you will have the option of going to the cinema to watch one of Mumbai’s famous Bollywood movies.

Depending on flight times, you may wish to purchase this optional extra for either Day 1 or 4. Dharavi is India’s largest slum and on this walking tour you will be fascinated to discover its sprawling alley ways thriving with local small scale businesses and enterprises.
